How Edinburgh Community Food is run

Edinburgh Community Food is a Registered Charity and Company Limited by Guarantee which is overseen by a Board of Directors (volunteers), a staff of ten and with the help of many volunteers. One even wrote the words you are reading now.

The Board meet on a monthly basis with appropriate sub-groups dealing with specific topics including social enterprise development and human resources.

Charitable Purposes

We’re here to:

  • Relieve poverty and promote health equality through supporting the provision of affordable healthy food to people living in the City of Edinburgh and surrounding areas, primarily those with a low income; and
  • Advance education through the provision of training in food values, food preparation and food hygiene; and
  • Advance community development through supporting the establishment and maintenance of local food co-operatives through which people are encouraged to take an active part in the civic life of their communities.
