Food and Mood

Our team of experienced Associate Registered Nutritionists offer training session in a format and at a time that suits you.  Our most popular healthy eating and nutrition session is Food and Mood.

Food and Mood is a fascinating subject area and one that is perhaps even more relevant now as we all feel the effects of a year and more of lockdowns and isolation. While we cannot say nutritious food is a ‘cure’ for diagnosed mental ill-health there are various ways in which poor diet and unhealthy behaviours may exacerbate low mood in general and diagnosed conditions more specifically.

With knowledge and confidence we can ‘level the playing field’ and give ourselves both agency and a better experience of living with and managing our symptoms. In looking at the relationship between what we eat and how we feel we cover the three key aspects of overall human health: nutrition, exercise and social interaction, with the emphasis on nutrition.

We cover inflammation, gut bacteria and gut health, the benefits of balancing our diet and also look at the roles of carbohydrates (including sugar) and fats. Using food as a focal point for social interaction and touching on the roles of exercise in good mental health, our talk lasts for one hour and there will be time at the end for questions.

Please call us on 0131 467 7326 for more information and pricing.

I'll use this for work and personal interest, definitely with participants in the wellbeing course that I run.

An excellent talk, thank you, I learnt a lot.  It was really interesting both for me but also I can pass some of this onto the families I work with.

Thank you for today’s session – everyone enjoyed it and it has certainly generated a bit of discussion in the office. Excellent for our service users but also for me personally too! I'll share this information about food and mood with people who access the mental health service I work on.
