Every school holiday we offer cooking classes to families around Edinburgh as part of the Discover! programme in partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council.  Due to the Covid-19 crisis, we have taken the programme online and are providing lots of exciting activities virtually.

Since the summer, there has been an increased need for support which has resulted in Edinburgh Community Food delivering food boxes to an increasing number of families.  This Easter we will be supporting 375 families.  The Covid-19 crisis has really put pressure on families already struggling financially and this project has supported them at this extremely difficult time, providing healthy food in dignified way.

Via a closed Facebook Group and our YouTube channel, we will offer online cooking demonstrations to encourage families to try new meals and make it a joint activity getting the children involved in cooking.  We will be delivering food boxes with fresh and tinned produce including all the ingredients and equipment needed to join in with the online cooking activities.

The programme of activities and cooking during Easter will be based around the theme of Spring into Action.  Discover! Easter 2021 Brochure

Easter 2021 Recipes

We will provide recipes and ingredients to encourage families to make Vegetable Frittata, tomato and coriander salad, crunchie coleslaw and apple and pear sponge.  Our Food and Health Development Officer, Jo Howie, will provide a live demonstration of how to make the Frittata and Theodora Hidalgo will be making apple and pear sponge via Facebook Live.  Families can follow along in real time and ask questions/leave comments or they can watch it back later.  We also have Gloria from Made by Flour, who will take families on a culinary journey and teach them how to easily make authentic pasta from scratch and a delicious sauce for Lasagna!

Easter Activities

We will provide a food play activity to get the children creative with food and an educational worksheet around fruit and vegetables for little ones to get involved in.
