Edinburgh Community Food have been working in partnership with the Health Agency to develop and deliver the 'Tasting Change' project in the Wester Hailes area of the city.  The project aims to respond to local priorities and aspirations for a stronger community in Wester Hailes through tackling the deprivation levels and inequalities created by food insecurity. Tasting Change aims to develop and deliver community led solutions to food insecurity that strengthen community connections with an emphasis on dignity and sustainability.

What's happening?

We have a weekly Community Food Shop on every Thursday from 10am-2pm at the Healthy Living Centre which offers affordable healthy food including our very popular Take and Make bags as well as local, seasonal fruit and vegetables. At 12pm we also serve fresh, homemade soup as part of our 'Garden Kitchen' which is free for Tasting Change members and a donation of £1 for non-members. Our shop is helped run by 3 fantastic local volunteers.

We also provide weekly cooking groups in blocks of 8 weeks for local people. This is a lively, fun social group which allows participants to learn basic cooking skills, increase confidence in the kitchen and how to eat healthily on a budget.
