Edinburgh Community Food launches exciting new project with Bridging the Gap!

We are delighted to develop our partnerships with local growers, including Jock Tamson’s Gairden at Duddingston Loch and Pillars of Hercules Farm in Fife as part of the Bridging the Gap project, to bring climate and nature-friendly produce to the local community at prices subsidised to match non-organically grown produce.

The Bridging the Gap programme helps support people experiencing lower incomes to access responsibly grown, chemical-free fruit and vegetables by removing barriers such as accessibility and cost. The initiative ‘bridges the gap’ between organically grown climate and nature friendly food and many local people who may prefer it but ordinarily not be able to access it. Our project is one in a series of pilot projects across the UK driving and satisfying the demand for nourishing, locally grown, climate and nature-friendly food in areas of lower incomes. The evidence captured through this work will help support Sustain to advocate for national and local level policy change around responsible food and farming practices.

To make use of the scheme, eligible people can sign up for a fruit and veg box delivery within Edinburgh or visit us in-person at our Leith Walk Police Box pop-up stall or our warehouse in Leith.

Leith is a vibrant and diverse area of Edinburgh, and we look forward to meeting customers, old and new, with this offer of exciting and affordable produce as part of the pilot project!

We’re thrilled to have been able to source a wonderful variety of locally grown Scottish fruit and vegetables such as rhubarb, potatoes, salad leaves, mushrooms, herbs, carrots, cucumbers, garlic, courgettes, kale, beetroot, apples, pears and fennel as well as some organic produce from further afield such as bananas, aubergines and apricots.

We'll next be at the Leith Walk Police Box on:

  • Thursday 15th August
  • Thursday 29th August
  • Thursday 12th September

If you’d like more information or wish to purchase a box, please contact Karen - [email protected] or call 0131 467 7326.
